Custom Ornamental Newel Post

I have to say this was a real joy to make. I really enjoy this ornamental style of carving. This mahogany (sapele) newel post was commissioned by a custom stair builder out of Long Island, http://www.deerparkstairs.com/. They gave me some liberty in the design. They gave me a picture of a post in the style they liked and said go for it. What a blast! I used to doodle these kinds of designs as a kid all over my school notebooks. I felt like a kid again. Enjoy!
