This a 5 x 10 sign made of aluminum composite board with aluminum frame and vinyl letters. The background gradient was sprayed. I fabricated aluminum flat bar into hanging brackets while my friend welded a post to a bracket. Then it was ready for install!

This is a 30” x 11 ft. cherry stump full of burls that we debarked. Then, we carved a scrollwork design over the entire surface using imagery of vines, leaves and flowers. We utilized the hollows to create contrasting negative space. We cleaned out the hollows and made sure the water could drain well. Then, we saturated the inside and outside with an oil wood preservative and mounted it on a custom concrete pad. It took two weeks to carve and oil and is located in the garden of a residence in Georgetown, Washington DC. We used the following tools:
We used a chain hoist to erect this 11 ft. Cherry carving today. Tomorrow we’ll continue to fill cracks and do final touch ups before we apply the oil. Stay tuned!
Coming to the end of the paisley relief carving. We poured the pad and power washed the inside hollow areas in preparation for epoxy. The outside will get oil. Thanks for looking and sharing!

Applying the finishing touches on this 10 ft. grizzly. A bear cub will be added to the base next… stay tuned!
This eagle is roughly 4ft. tall x 5 ft. wide and is carved from a red oak log. The wing tips and tail were add- ons reinforced with gorilla glue and timber screws. It was carved with 80% chainsaw and the rest smaller power tools. Next, it was put in a custom kiln for a week to season the wood. The cracks were then filled and the wood preservatives were applied to seal and color the wood. Thanks for looking! Check out www.customwoodcarvings.com to see more.

Just got this big order of burr bits from #saburrtoothtools for an ambitious carving project in Washington DC that will require a team of us doing a lot of dremel work. Stay tuned!!
We created and installed two 5x10 ft. dimensional signs for each end of our beloved town to welcome visitors. They are made of weatherproof sign foam with a welded steel frame embedded inside. The frame was then used to attach it to a timberframe structure made of 6x6s.
Are you wondering why I built an insulated box around this carving? Well, have you heard that deep freezing your carvings using a chunk of dry ice in an insulated box will completely prevent your carving from ever cracking? I know, it seems too good to be true right? Think about it, when the wood fibers enter a state of deep freeze the atomic activity between the protons and neutrons begin to stretch into what is called “suspended metamorphosis”. This then allows the thermal dynamics of the cambium layers to synthesize with the molecular fusion between the outer sap wood and the inner core. Resulting in a symbiosis of energy that creates an ever increasing vortex of hardening bands that surround each annual growth ring. So, the fibers surrounding the pith will begin to undergo a property change called “arborium calcification”. This completely reverses the carbon’s natural tendency to want to find a pressure release that we recognize as a crack. Isn’t that amazing?! And to think, an obscure, retired, self-proclaimed doctor and tree expert from Nigeria has known this all this time and finally decided to post this amazing break through. Incredible. Unbelievable, really…
Carved and glued the tail on today. Tomorrow add the feathers to the tail and detail the talons and fish.
Having fun with the feathers. I tried a new technique of dragging the tip in a u shape and I really like the effect it gives for the body and leg feathers. It looks natural yet random and active.
