This stump was about 5 ft. wide and 9 ft. tall. at a residence in Colchester, CT.
The owners wanted a design that would be a tribute to their love of nature as well as their love of their cat and dog that passed and are actually buried at the foot of the carving. Here is the design they settled with…
So I set up my staging, gassed up the saws and went at it…
About 50 hours later and surviving a 3 ft. blizzard, this is what it became (without wood preservative)…
This is what you see when looking down the front sidewalk…

What a beautiful memorial sculpture!
I’m Denise’s sister from ri. And I’m truly amazed at this carving. Your a very talented man.
A most amazing memorial for this family .
Hi, I tried contacting you thru email, but it kicks back to me because of spam protection. Please email me, I have a question.
I’m very touched by this memorial and love the time and effort spent to make it a true memorial to the memory of their furry family members that had passed. My question is: How long will this sculpture last without wood preservative to keep it from decaying in the kind of weather you have in CT?
Keep up the beautiful work that you are so gifted in creating!
Unprotected carvings will last a few years, but I do not recommend that. Wood carvings should always have wood preservative applied every couple years. It will last as long as the wood preservative is maintained…

So, did you end up putting a preservative on this cat/dog memorial after the pictures were taken, or did the owners prefer it left natural? I would think they would want to keep it around forever :).
Yes, they wanted preservative applied.
