This customer in central Connecticut had two trees that were compromised and needed to be removed. He decided to do something special with the stumps to accent his incredible display of flower gardens all over his property. Another motivation was that his property was going to be on the “Parade of Homes” in a few months.
We went back and forth on design ideas that related to nature and garden life. His sister, a gifted painter/artist, drew up a design idea that we all thought would work. The bottom would be the things in the foreground like grasses, flowers, logs, rocks, and small animals. Then the middle of the carving would be the midground with things like tree trunks, branches, and birds. Finally, the top of the carving would be branches and leaves and a nest with a family of owls with the daddy owl stretching out his wings covering his family. Once the design was set, I was able to get to work carving. Enjoy the process pics.

Ready for stain! My buddy, Michael, came out to help me oil the carving. This is always my favorite part – seeing the grain pop as the oil penetrates the wood.

I sent you an email. I collect hand carved statues and I use Google to help me determine whether things are what they’re worth and about them. And I had googled a hand carved monkey and your monkey came up and I look through your website and gallery in the email I have a few questions but I am just so impressed by you and your your vision and your creativity. It’s beyond words.
During my searches I’ve been talking to a man who’s father was a famous artist and Thursday I am buying very expensive large sculpture which it was one of his favorites and he kept it for his own personal collection He’s dead and his son is selling everything. I thought his vision of what the piece of cherry would he got that was a very odd shape and what he created out of it was astounding and I’m flabbergasted at your work and I’m hoping you get back to me I really would like to keep in touch and I just think you’re great and you’re very talented beyond words
