A customer in central Virginia got in touch. He has a system of private mountain bike trails and wanted to create a dramatic landmark in the woods. He asked if I could make him a 6 ft. aggressive bear. We decided to go with a weatherproof culture made of high-density foam hardcoated with epoxy resin.
First, I started making a large foam block out of smaller blocks…

Next, I used my battery powered chainsaw and hot wire to start removing all the foam that didn’t belong there.

I set in a taxidermy mouth, claws and eyes using epoxy putty.

Next, I embedded wood into the base so the brackets had something strong to attach to.
Now, the painting begins! Multiple colors of brown were used to achieve a sense of realism in the fur.

What a blessing to be able to work with my children!!

Aloha from Maui,
I love the 6′ foot bear. (for my father) He lives in Michigan and loves bears and always talked about getting a large yard ornament to put in his well manicured garden. I was hoping to get something like that of similar with the open mouth showing teeth. I’ve seen similar wood carved bears but none as nice or realistic as yours. I was just wondering how much it would cost to make a similar size bear with a similar ferocious face and ship it to Michigan. also wonder how long it would take to complete. (Christmas gift possibility?) 🙂 Thanks for your time.
