Starting a piece to display at Ridgeway. Looking forward to being surrounded with such great carvers for a few days.

This sculpture was commissioned as a public art piece for one of the turnabouts in Washington DC. It was a collaboration with fellow artist, designer and gallery owner, Martha Spak ( #marthaspak ) Martha designed the concept and won the public art bid. We did the creation part of the process with Martha’s artistic guidance. If you would like to see it in person it is located near 700 Delaware Ave, SW, WDC, 20024.

The color is finished! Next, I’ll apply an automotive clear coat for added protection.

When sanding fiberglass, it itches bad if it gets on your skin. These painting suits are life savers. The final coat of epoxy is tinted a red brown so I can see where I’ve painted. Next, is painting with air brush!!! It’s going to be fun to finally get some color on these rings!

We applied fiberglass and epoxy to all surfaces. Now, I’m sanding the epoxy smooth, getting it ready for painting

We added a third ring to the sculpture. Next, I will reinforce all the joints with epoxy clay and fill all screw holes. Then, it’s ready for epoxy resin and fiberglass. Stay tuned!

I was walking through the Charlotte, NC airport and all of a sudden I looked over and recognized this sign I made 6 years ago and forgot about! Looks just like new!

I embedded rebar into these rings so that my friend, Larry, could weld them in position to this metal plate. A third ring will be added next!! Stay tuned!

Stay tuned for an interesting project using rings made from laminated 20 lb. density foam!

Paul Waclo and I carved this bear out of an 18 ft. poplar stump 5 ys. ago. We cut it loose and laid it on the ground using a 50 ton crane. After a concrete base with a 13 ft. T beam sticking out of it was completed, we used the crane and set it into place with the T beam lag screwed to its back. We then cleaned up the base by removing bad wood and adding some replacement wood in other places. Lastly, we put some oil wood preservative on the base. Thanks for looking!

This is a 4 ft. tall carving of a heron in poplar and finished with an oil wood preservative. Thanks for looking.

Haven’t done a heron in awhile. I love the curves and gracefulness of these birds. The sun is feeling nice on these chilly days. Hope y’all are staying warm.

This an old project from a few years back. These bears were carved out of laminated HDU sheets, painted and installed in a half canoe. The canoe then hangs on a wall as interior decor. Thanks for looking!

These are custom letters carved out of weatherproof high density foam to look like antler letters. Then finished to look like cast bronze. Two different sizes 12” tall and 8” tall. Thanks for looking!
