Piling Carving Series – Saybrook Point Inn Marina

A few years ago, Saybrook Point Inn in Old Saybrook, CT, began commissioning me to create a series of native wildlife designs to be carved into the tops of the pilings that surround the marina in front of their charming restaraunt patio and dining area. They’ve hired me to do 2 or 3 every summer. So far, I’ve had the honor of creating a blue heron, harbor seal, beaver, school of blue fish, eagle, duck with bluegill, crab with oysters, tuna, lobster, swordfish, and a squid. Here are some pics of the series.

This series continues to grow, so I’ll keep adding to this post as they are created. This feels like extreme carving because I have to hang over the edge of a straight 10 ft. drop into the water during the entire carving process. Thankfully, I haven’t dropped any tools in!!
