We’ve really enjoyed working with the Olde Mecklenburg Brewery in Charlotte, NC on several previous jobs. This last winter they asked us to create a custom carving for their restaurant out of an oversize barrel end from Germany.
We started by creating the CNC program file and routing it out.
Then we carved the fine detail – the beehive, hops, stonework and so on – with various power tools.
The barrel head was not a perfect circle, so I traced the inside edge of the barrel on paper, laid that over the roughed-out carving, and cut the outside edge to perfectly fit the barrel head.
Next, we stained it…
Then we installed the carved piece into the barrel head.
