Mountain Dew commissioned this portrait of NFL player Andrew Hawkins and surprised him with it on his live podcast. The finished portrait was fired clay and painted to look like a bronze cast, then mounted on a hardwood base. Thanks for looking!
This was a 5 ft. diameter oak barrel end shipped from Germany. We added a white oak relief carving of their logo to the end and they hung it on the wall of their restaurant. This thing is huge! It is an impressive focal point for their patrons in Charlotte, NC.
The Caterpillar Company celebrated their 40,000th big dozer and ordered this 3 ft. long D-11 Dozer carving to add to the celebration. Carved out of paulownia. Thanks for looking!
This carving is roughly 2’ x 4’ x 1” thick and carved from weatherproof HDU foam. This was carved partly with a router and partly by hand, then painted. It was commissioned by a residence in central Virginia. Thanks for looking.
A 30” tall bear cub made from high density foam, then painted. No epoxy seal necessary with this foam. It is a 15 lb. density HDU foam used in professional sign making. Completely weatherproof- no cracks, no rot, no maintenance! Thanks for looking.
This Arnold Palmer carving was carved by someone else. I was commissioned to restore the carving. I replaced rotted wood with good wood, filled cracks, sanded and oiled it and replaced the base with a metal plate. This is located in Haymarket, Virginia at a country club. Thanks for looking!
8 ft. grizzly carved in foam, sealed with epoxy resin and painted. Taxidermy inserts for mouth and eyes. This sculpture is weatherproof and durable. This was created for a customer near Reno, Nevada to greet his guests as they enter his home.
This is a life sized bust with a foam carved core. Then, detailed out in water based clay over the foam. Next, a silicone mold was made. Finally, a cold cast bronze was made from the mold. Thanks for looking!
Momma and cub near Asheville,NC. Thanks for looking.
Life size eagle carving. The tail was added on. Hangs from an eye screw in the back. This went to a customer in Westerville, Ohio. Thanks for looking!
Finished this 6.5’ foam/ resin Bear for a private mountain bike park in central Virginia. The benefit of this material vs. a wood carving, is foam/ resin is completely weatherproof requiring no future maintenance. No cracking, no sanding and re-oiling, no rot. However it does cost more than a wood carving up front. Thanks for looking and sharing!
Life-size goat and pig for a customer in Long Island. Thanks for looking and sharing! www.customwoodcarvings.com
10 ft. grizzly carved out of a huge red oak log on location in Westerville, Ohio. Yes, I used taxidermy inserts for the mouth, eyes and claws. Thanks for looking and sharing!
Added some layers of brown tones to the fur today. 70 degrees and beautiful!
Adding claws with black epoxy clay. Thanks for looking. www.Sculpture-Signs.com
Finished the 3rd coat of epoxy thanks to my lovely helpers! Nothing like a little “brush the bear” family time.
This is a base to a set of end tables made for a Marriott Hotel in Breckenridge, CO. Thanks for looking.
Applying the first coat of epsilon pro epoxy to this foam bear.
Making progress on this 6.5’ foam grizzly. Almost finished texturing. I’m using a burr disc on my angle grinder for most of the texture. Also using dremel burrs, finger sander, and hand sander for the rest of the details. Once detailing is done, I can apply the epoxy foam coat. I use Epsilon Pro foam coat from Smooth-On. Great product and company located in PA. Thanks for looking and sharing!
Making progress on this 6.5’ foam grizzly. Textured the fur today. Tomorrow, I’ll embed the hardware to the base and then I should be ready for the first coat of epoxy resin. Stay tuned!
