For $65 you get a roughly 12″ x 24″ x 3″ box of HDU (High Density Urethane) foam. This foam is great for small carvings, craft projects. It is weatherproof and has the qualities of wood but without the challenges of wood grain. Get in touch if you’re interested or have any questions!

Hey there Chris,
I hope all is well with you and your family. I absolutely love the grizzly bear you did. The finishing touches really make it!
The person you recommended for touching up my totem pole was supposed to put me on his list a couple of years ago and never contacted me. The base of the old oak tree is starting to rot. The bark has peeled off and I can see decay. The totem itself has mushroom growing in some areas. Is there a way I can preserve the base and totem myself. I was thinking of buying some Thompson water seal and slathering that all over, as high as I can reach. I can always put a ladder in the back of my truck like I did the first Christmas to put a halo on the bear. LOL
Any input you can give would be appreciated.
Take care,
Bev
Wetland Woods
Hi Bev,
Thanks for getting in touch. To truly preserve it, I would take a chainsaw and cut it at the base above the bad wood. Then, set it on a concrete pad with 4 pieces of angle iron braces to hold it in place with 1/4″ – 1/2″ of air gap between the bottom of the carving and the concrete. Then, I would clean it all off and apply a fresh coat of Benjamin Moore Arborcoat – Natural – 326-10 wood preservative. Give that a try and you should be all set. Let me know if you have any other questions. Kris
Thank you Kris for getting back to me. I can ask around to see if there is anyone capable to helping me with this. Will you send me the mans email or phone # up in eastern CT to see if he can help me? Thank you so much and god bless. I am so happy to see your decision has worked well for you.

You are amazing! I hadn’t visited your site in a while; what a treat! I especially enjoyed the Indian Shores project and your documentation of the process. You are an inspiration! Stay in touch, we miss you in Connecticut.
